Very effective use of two of today's advanced technologies. When a Bill
is introduced in congress ( either house ) in Washington which affects
your rights to communicate by SATELLITE or BULLETIN BOARD SYSTEMS it is
FAXXED to K SAT and downloaded by SATELLITE to thousand of BBS'S before
it gets to other Senators desks. Senate Bill S889 and House Bill HR1885
are two such Bills currently under consideration in Washington.
At this time both Senator Reigle and Senator Levin have chosen NOT to support
these Bills which were written by KSAT to be favorable to the FREE FLOW OF
COMMUNICATION. SENATOR GORE introduced S889 in the Senate and was primarily
responsible for it being passed out of committee with a favorable recommend-
ation. Senator Reigle, a member of the committee, either abstained or
voted against the bill. A voice vote was taken and it was unclear how he
voted. Your PHONE CALL to the two Senators could help to change their
minds on this important bill.
These two Bills are companion Bills and would take control of SATELLITE
COMMUNICATION technology out of the hands of the CABLE MONOPOLIES and
give it back to the people who paid to put them in orbit ( THE PUBLIC ).
You can currently receive data over the SATELLITE at 300, 1200, 4800 and
9600 BAUD on about 20 channels. The CABLE MONOPOLIES are supposed to be
operating in the public interest however they won't send data down the
line to your television or stereo amplifier until they are forced to
by competition. S889 would give competing COMMUNICATIONS technologies
a chance to grow as an alternative to cable.
